Arleen RamirezBorn in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, the soprano Arleen Ramirez completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Music in Voice Performance at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico in combination with the Boston Conservatory of Music, where she studied with legendary Italian soprano Iride Pilla. During her time at the IUPR she studied with mezzo soprano Madja Moreno, renowned mezzo-soprano Dr. Evangelina Colon, and Dr. Raquel Montalvo. Arleen holds a Master’s Degree in Arts in Music and Opera Performance from the University of Central Florida where she studied with tenor Dr. Jeremy Hunts. Arleen has performed on the concert stage in opera, music theater, popular, flamcenco, and hindustani music. The versatility of her voice has given her the opportunity of singing a wide variety of music genres and train with singers such as: hisdustani music composer and singer Deepak Kumar and successful lyric vocal coach Manny Perez who has on his account opera singers, such as, Elizabeth Caballero and Eglisse Gutierrez. In the popular and ethnical music field the soprano has worked and recorded with several artists for over ten years. She has toured the east coast of USA with a Berklee College of Music based jazz vocal ensemble group called Zonabo. From 2000 to 2008 Arleen was a performing artist and music teacher with Danzactiva Dance Company directed by the puertorrican dancer Paulette Beauchamp; ACE and HOLA award winner. The soprano has established herself as one of the most complete singers and a respected performer in her homeland of Puerto Rico. Arleen has sang and recorded with important puertorrican artists and musicians, such as, Tony Croatto, Silverio Perez, bass player Agustin Barreto, Bass player Ricky Encarnacion, percussionist Alex Acuna, flamenco band Fusion Jonda, and Antonio Santaella, flamenco teacher and choreographer among others. Among these, her resume includes histrionic arts as well, as she has had the opportunity to work as an actress in TV commercials and theatrical plays.
As part of her operatic career Arleen has performed with the Puerto Rico Lyric Opera, the Boston Conservatory OperaTheater, the Florida Opera Theater, and she has been a soloist with the Arlington Philharmonic, the Puerto Rico Phillarmonic, the Interamerican University of PR Choir, and the Boston Conservatory Concert Choir. In 2012, she was the recipient of the PR Cultural Institute Award for young artists and she was sponsored by internationally renowned tenor, Cesar Hernandez. In 2015 she won the first place on her division at the NATS singing competition at UCF. Arleen has sang the roles of Despina in Cossi fan tutte, Amahl and the mother in Amahl and the night visitors, Pamina in The magic flute, Belinda in Dido and Aeneas, among several partial Operatic roles. She has recently appeared as Barmaid in the classic Operetta The Student Prince, produced by Orlando Light Opera. She is also a performing artist and chorus member of the Opera Orlando Company. Arleen is currently performing in concerts around the Central Florida area, United States, and Puerto Rico. In addition to her performing career, the puertorrican soprano has a passion for teaching. Arleen has been a vocal coach and singing teacher for theArleen Ramirez last 13 years. During 2010 to 2011 she was an adjunct voice professor at the Music Department of the Interamerican University of PR. She has also been one of the vocal coaches of the TV singing reality show The Voice Kids at Telemundo TV Network and Pequenos Gigantes USA at Univision Network. Arleen has also worked as vocal coach for several recording artists. She keeps on passing the legacy of music appreciation and singing techniques at her private studio in Central Florida where she currently teaches. Driven by her passion to work with children and youth, Arleen is involved in community outreach. She is currently an active board member of the Hispanic Autistic Association of Central Florida, where she works developing music programs for the autistic children. She has also worked with the Orlando Opera community outreach program. This is a program designed to educate youth and children about opera. Among her latest community projects; In October 2018 Arleen joined efforts with The Hand Foundation NJ to bring relief to her beloved island of Puerto Rico after hurricane Maria, thus composing a song titled Isla del Cordero. The song was arranged by international pianist Adlan Cruz, and featuring important singers from several nationalities, such as, legendary salsa singer Ismael Miranda.
