Alejandro Macias
Alejandro Macias was born and raised in Brownsville, TX, located along the U.S. / Mexico border. Macias has lived in the Rio Grande Valley the majority of his personal and professional life. His formal training includes an earned Bachelor of Arts in Art from The University of Texas at Brownsville in 2008, and a Master of Fine Arts in 2-D Studio Art from The University of Texas – Pan American in 2012. Macias has exhibited throughout the state of Texas. Galleries and venues include: Artspace111 in Fort Worth, Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin, Craighead Green Gallery in Dallas, Freight Gallery in San Antonio, K Space Contemporary in Corpus Christi, and 3rd Space Art Gallery in San Antonio. s include: The Foundry Art Centre in St. Charles, MO, Core New Art Space in Denver, CO, Barrett Art Center in Poughkeepsie, NY, Minot State University in North Dakota, Unarthodox in NYC, and CICA Museum in Gimpo, South Korea. He curated the art for a National of Endowment for Humanities 500 Years of Latino History Grant for two exhibits at Texas A&M University San Antonio and the Tejano Civil Rights Museum in Corpus Christi. Notably in 2016, he was accepted and attended the prestigious Vermont Studio Center as an artist in resident and was hosted alongside visual artists and writers from across the world. He will return to Vermont Studio Center as an artist in resident in July 2018. Macias remains an active member in his community and has collaborated and supported many events as workshop artist, curator, juror, and guest speaker. Noteworthy, he was recently nominated and elected to serve and lend his expertise as a board member for The Brownsville Museum of Fine Arts. Since 2013, Macias has held the rank of Lecturer I at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley where he teaches drawing, painting, and design.
