Sarah Bauer
Sarah Bauer is a young operatic soprano based in Houston, Texas, and enjoys performing a wide range of repertoire, from sacred to electro-acoustic music. Ms. Bauer recently completed her second season as the soprano resident artist with Shreveport Opera in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she performed the roles of Annina in La Traviata, Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, and Clorinda in La Cenerentola during the 2014-2015 season.
During the 2013-2014 season, she also performed there the roles of Giannetta (Adina cover) in L’elisir d’amore and Peep-bo (Yum-yum cover) in The Mikado. Other operatic roles include Beth in Mark Adamo’s with Opera in the Ozarks, Blanche in Dialogues des Carmélites, and Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel, both with the University of Missouri – Kansas City Opera Theater. She has also performed operetta with the Kansas City Metro Opera as Casilda in The Gondoliers and Yum-yum in The Mikado. Other roles performed include Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro and Zerlina in Don Giovanni. In addition to pop and operatic performances with orchestra, Ms. Bauer’s oratorio performances include Handel’s Messiah (Shreveport, Louisiana), Mozart’s Mass in c minor (Texarkana, Texas), Bruckner’s Te Deum and Vaughan Williams’ In Windsor Forest (St. Joseph, Missouri), Vivaldi’s Gloria (Kansas City, Missouri), and Mendelssohn’s Psalm 42 (Kansas City, Missouri). Competitions and awards include The American Prize in Voice Friedrich & Virginia Schorr Memorial Award for 2015 in the college/university opera division (winner), competing as a semi-finalist in Shreveport Opera’s Singer of the Year Competition in 2016, 2015, and 2014, as a semi-finalist in Chicago’s Bel Canto Foundation Competition 2013, and reception of a 2011 University of Missouri Women’s Council Grant and 2010 Society of Singers Scholarship. Ms. Bauer has had the pleasure of performing as a young artist apprentice with several American companies, including Opera Company of Middlebury (Middlebury, Vermont), Shreveport Opera (Shreveport, Louisiana), and Opera Theater Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania). In addition to her studies at the University of Missouri – Kansas City, Ms. Bauer received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Michigan State University, where she studied with soprano Melanie Helton. Recent teachers include Vinson Cole, Sunny Joy Langton, and Melanie Sonnenberg.
