Mary Lynn Swenson
Mary Swenson is a Minnesota native who continues to make a name for herself. As a National Dance Educator of the Year, she fulfills her passion of teaching and utilizes her skills in communication, at Woodbury Dance Center. A studio of 1,400+ students, Mary plays an integral role in this environment. In addition to her role as an instructor and choreographer, Mary is a communications specialist. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in the top 10% of her class with a degree in Communication Studies, minor in Mass Communications.
Serving as Vice President of the University’s Communication Studies Association, she has gained invaluable knowledge on how to communicate and connect. Her role at Woodbury Dance Center is multi-fold. Mary is the Teacher Assistant Coordinator for 90+ high school age dancers. She also plans events, helps to maintain website and social media, and creates studio communications. Mary was a competitive pom dancer, All-State cheerleader, and her high school cheerleading captain. Mary believes that dance teaches far more than technical ability- it inspires confidence, self-improvement, discipline, and individual expression.
Mary is trained in self-esteem development and loves empowering young people. Mary has led countless self-esteem workshops for youth groups. She has been a guest speaker for local and state wide-organizations. Mary enjoys pageantry and was honored to be Miss Minnesota International 2011. She has appeared on websites, print materials, done runway work, and been featured in Supermodels Unlimited Magazine. Mary has emceed, directed, choreographed, and judged many pageant events.
All of these experiences and her educational background have helped her become a successful pageant coach for girls as owner of Confidence & Poise, LLC. She loves sharing her passion of positive pageantry with young women. She currently is an official sponsor for North Dakota International Pageants, Wisconsin United States Pageants, Midwest Dreams Wisconsin, and America’s Little Miss Midwest/National Pageants. She finds joy in volunteering for The Dove Self-Esteem Fund, Girl Scouts, Go Red For Women, Woodbury Days, Holiday Lights in the Park, and the Christian Cupboard.
In her spare time, she is a “yogi” in training, loves rhinestoning anything, collects Marilyn Monroe and Barbie memorabilia, and plays with her pomeranian puppy, Lola.
