Kristin Genis-Lund

Kristin Genis-Lund, lyric coloratura soprano, is a San Francisco Bay area native and graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor’s degree in vocal performance and German. Upon returning to the Bay Area, she received her Master’s degree in vocal performance from San Jose State University. Since that time, Ms. Genis-Lund has performed extensively throughout Northern California in oratorio, opera, musical theater and has given numerous recitals. Concert appearances include Brahm’s German Requiem, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass in D, Beethoven’s Mass in C , Dvorak’s Te Deum, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, Coronation Mass and the Exultate Jubilate and Bruckner’s Te Deum, in addition to a recording and live performance of Dr. Ron Kean’s The American Hymn Mass with The Choral Project and Webber’s Pie Jesu from The Requiem with the Silicon Valley Gay Men’s Chorus.
She has been active in both the In-School Outreach Program and in the mainstage productions of Opera San Jose as well as other Bay Area Opera companies. Roles include Mademoiselle Silberklang and Madame Herz in Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirektor, The Princess in Dougherty’s Many Moons, Lucy in Menotti’s The Telephone, Sicle in Cavalli’s L’Ormindo, Nella in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Sister Genevieve in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Frasquita in Bizet’s Carmen, Manon in the title role of Massenet’s opera, and Norina in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale.
In the musical theatre circle, she sang the role of Laurey in Peninsula Musical Theater’s production of Rodger & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! and the role of Maria in Peninsula Center Stage’s production of Bernstein’s West Side Story. Ms. Genis-Lund was the first place winner in the 1992, 1993 and 1996 National Association of Teachers of Singers Competition for Art Song and Opera, the second place winner in the 1995 California Women’s Chorus Vocal Scholarship Competition and a finalist in the 1996 San Francisco Concerto Orchestra Vocalist Competition. Kristin has worked with several renowned opera directors, including Irene Dalis, Daniel Helfgot, David Oswald, Danny Shay, Nicola Rossi-Lemeni and James Lucas. She presently studies with Pamela Fry in Palo Alto.
