Harrison HintzscheHarrison Hintzsche is quickly gaining recognition as an avid recitalist, concert singer, and ensemble musician. The Minneapolis-based baritone has been praised for his warm lyric tone, musical subtlety, and dedication to text. Hintzsche will make his Wigmore Hall debut in January 2018 in a collaborative recital on the songs of Franz Schubert with pianist Graham Johnson. Other season highlights will include Buxtehude’s Magnificat with Mark Sedio and The Central Choir at Central Lutheran Minneapolis and the role of “The Archangel” in Carol Barnett’s Mortals & Angels: A Bluegrass Te Deum with Philip Brunelle and the VocalEssence Ensemble Singers.
A sought-after ensemble singer, Hintzsche can be found performing with some of the many Twin-Cities-based choral ensembles, such as The VocalEssence Ensemble Singers, The Minnesota Chorale, and MPLS (imPulse). This past season, he made his Schubert Club debut in a duet lecture recital entitled Sing, Poet! Songs of Celius Dougherty with mezzo-soprano Clara Osowski and pianist Mark Bilyeu. Hintzsche also gave a duet recital with soprano Anna Christofaro and pianist Matthew Harikian entitled “Mostly Minnesotan,” a program that featured the songs of Minnesotan composers. He was also a member of the 2017 Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart JSB Ensemble with conductors Helmuth Rilling, Hans-Christoph Rademann, and Kathy Saltzman Romey. Hintzsche appeared as a soloist in performances of the Fauré Requiem, Bach’s Magnificat and BWV 21 “Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis,” and Antonio Caldara’s Stabat Mater. Hintzsche attended St. Olaf College, graduating cum laude with a B.M. in Vocal Performance in 2016. At St. Olaf, he toured with the St. Olaf Choir, conducted by Dr. Anton Armstrong, and studied voice with Dr. Robert C. Smith.
He also sang the roles of Sid (Albert Herring) and Maximilian (Candide) with the St. Olaf Lyric Theater and was a co-founder of the a cappella quartet Krossmen. Other educational credits include Source Song Festival in Minneapolis, Minnesota; SongFest in Los Angeles; and The Sankt Goar International Music Festival and Academy in Sankt Goar, Germany. Hintzsche has had the immense pleasure of working with several notable musicians such as Graham Johnson, Sanford Sylvan, Martin Katz, Håkan Hagegård, Julius Drake, Arlene Shrut, François le Roux, Roger Vignoles, and Patricia Caicedo.
