Hannah DeMello
Hannah DeMello grew up in Southeastern Alabama where everyone knows your name. Surrounded by chicken houses and peanut fields, Hannah is so thankful for the lifestyle she has. Her hometown has such a special place in her heart. Throughout her childhood, she was always looking for her ‘thing’. She tried sports, art and literally everything one can possibly think of, but nothing ever stuck for her. Nothing but music. Music was one thing her heart always came back to. What she was always drawn to. Hannah grew up singing at a young age. Her father was something of a musical prodigy who could hear a song once and play it on guitar to a ‘T’, and her mother grew up singing in church and various places. Hannah was introduced to a wide range of different genres from rock to reggae, gospel to traditional country, which is where her roots are planted. She’d spend her school days writing the lyrics to songs she had heard on the radio. And then eventually, writing songs of her own. Hannah has always been somewhat of a daydreamer, which she guesses ultimately worked out in her favor. After years of touching base with songwriting, she felt a longing in her spirit to learn an instrument. So thanks to a dear family member, the evening of her 15th birthday Hannah was given a small keyboard. The next day, she went to school, printed off the chords to “Jar of Hearts” by Christina Perri, and learned to play it within 2 hours of being home. Hannah had always had a love of music, but that day, her love of making music was born. Shortly after that, she was loaned a guitar, given only with the promise that she would practice every day, and that she did. She learned chords one song at a time. Hannah spent hours and hours playing in front of her mother’s bathroom mirror. Her fingers bled and her fingernails chipped, but she was high on the thought of being one step closer to her dream. She fell in love with the guitar and songwriting. That following Christmas, she was given one of her own from her father- an Alvarez that she cherished with her life to this day. After a few months of bathroom concerts and support from close friends and family, Hannah got up the courage to branch out.
Hannah approached the manager of a local coffee shop in hopes of playing once or twice a week, and she allowed her to without hesitation. So there Hannah was, playing twice a week at the best coffee shop in town, and she did this for about 6 months. Honestly, this is one of her favorite things she has ever done as a musician. Hannah learned more about herself and her craft in those 6 months than she had in her whole life. She gained the confidence to reach out even more, playing at fairs, festivals, restaurants, and quite a few different venues. Without that first coffee shop gig, Hannah doesn’t know that she would’ve had that strength. In the winter of 2013 is when the true roller coaster began. To this day, studio time is always her favorite. It’s such a raw and passionate time for her and she loves it. After those initial 4 songs, she continued to write and record, as well as play various venues across Georgia, Alabama and Florida. In the fall of 2014, Hannah found out that she was expecting her daughter, Spencer. So in that, she decided to put her dreams somewhat on the back burner.
For the duration of her pregnancy, she focused on songwriting and preparing for her new little one. Hannah has been so blessed with such supportive family and friends, it’s unreal. She’s been so lucky to share this dream with close friends who have lifted her up in low times and for that she is eternally grateful. Last but most certainly not least, her fans.
Hannah tell people all the time how amazing and special her supporters are to her. They literally never seize to amaze her. One minute they’re buying and promoting her music and the next they’re writing in telling their personal stories. Hannah loves the relationship that she’s been able to develop with them. Without them none of the things she does could be possible.
