Gino De Luca
Gino De Luca is a musician, singer-pianist, cabaret artist, and music educator in the dual Chicago-Milwaukee metropolitan area. As a performer, his specialty is playing the piano and singing the legendary music of The Great American Songbook. He also performs a wide variety of pop music from the 1910s to the present, Broadway musical selections, music of singer-songwriters, and jazz standards. Finally, he enjoys singing classical vocal repertoire, including opera and art song (French, German, Italian, English, Russian, and Latin), and sacred music.
Gino De Luca is a Chicago native who grew up during the 1970s and 1980s. This was a great time for a budding musician to grow up, as he was exposed to everything from commercial jingles (“Plop, plop, fizz, fizz” [Alka Selzer], “Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there” [State Farm Insurance]) to legendary movie music (Star Wars, Jaws, The Godfather, Funny Girl) to popular music by such artists as the Carpenters, Joni Mitchell, Barry Manilow, Carly Simon, and the Bee Gees. When he was a child, his parents encouraged him in his talent, and provided accordion and piano lessons. Although they did not know a great deal about music, musicians, or musical careers, they always provided opportunities to learn, grow, and share his talent.
After graduating from Quigley Preparatory Seminary North High School in Chicago, Gino ventured out into the professional music world. From solo and collaborative cabaret and theatre performances, to composing commercial jingles and children’s theatre scores, to serving as Music Director in the national tour of Into the Woods, to singing and dancing on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean, to working as a Navy Pier Player, Gino was fortunate to grow, develop, and fine-tune his musical talents. Beginning in the year 2000, he ventured into academia and attended Webster University, where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance at the age of 40.
Having truly enjoyed his undergraduate studies, he attended graduate school, and earned both his Master of Arts degree (Voice Performance-University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory) and Doctor of Philosophy (Voice Literature-University of Iowa) degree (at the age of 50). The title of jos PhD dissertation is The Genre of American Cabaret with an Original Cabaret Show by Gino De Luca. Throughout all of these educational experiences, he took away what was most valuable and applied them, first to performance and then to teaching undergraduate and graduate students. He loves to share his music with the world, and prolong that which he loves most: Music. If you would like to listen to some of his music, you are welcome to check out his Demo Music. If you like what you hear, you may purchase individual tracks or his debut album, A Time to Heal. Lastly, he would love to hear from you. he welcomes and enjoys hearing sincere feedback, and is open to suggestions on how he can improve his musical creations.
