Evelio Mendez
Evelio Mendez, Lyric Tenor, has been described as a “powerful tenor possessing all the requirements to have a 5 stars career”. His voice is perfect combination of power, tone, timbre and artistry that anyone could look forward to hear. Recently has performed at the ArtNaples World Festival under the baton of the prestigious conductor William Noll.
During the 2012-2013 was a Resident Artist for Opera Naples, performing the demanding role of Lysander from the opera “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Benjamin Britten under the baton of Richard Bernas, also performing in different galas and recitals for the company. Awarded in 2012 with the Encouragement Award at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions; Columbia, South Carolina. During 2012, Mr. Mendez has participated in the Marcelo Giordani Foundation master classes series at Vero Beach Opera in Florida.
For 2011-2012 season, was a Resident Artist of North Carolina’s premier opera company, Opera Carolina, based in Charlotte, which conducts the prestigious director James Meena, performing in productions as Il Trovatore and Eugene Onegin, in this last, made his debut as the Peasant Leader.
Also have performed the role Tamino in a out-reach program called cARTwheels and have been invited to sing in galas, recitals, and concerts for sponsors and donors of the company. Also collaborated with Carolina’s Arts Council in Random Acts of Culture. In Puerto Rico, performed the title role of Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the Performing Art Center of Puerto Rico with the Symphony Orchestra of the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the institution in 2010. In addition, in 2009, made his debut with the Symphony Orchestra of Puerto Rico at the Performing Arts Center Luis A Ferré; and, formed part of Opera de Puerto Rico, Teatro de la Opera de Puerto Rico and Fundación de Zarzuela y Operetta de Puerto Rico, performing on mainstage productions in the choir and coprimarios. On 2009 Mr. Mendez was awarded with a full scholarship to perform the role of Prunier, from the opera La Rondine (G. Puccini) in the prestigious International Vocal Arts Institute (IVAI) in Tel Aviv, Israel, under the baton of Lucy Arner (The Metropolitan Opera), owned by Joan Dornemann (The Metropolitan Opera). Performed at the Israeli Opera House performing opera Scenes from Les Contes de Hoffmann. Performed opera scenes from: L’Elisir D’Amore, Carmen, Les Contes de Hoffmann, Don Carlo, La Traviata, Die Emfuhrung Aus dem Serail, Cosi fan Tutte, The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni, Lucia di Lammermoor, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, among others with the International Instute of the Vocal Arts (IIVA) on 2008, 2009, 2010 with a full scholarship. Currently is based in Miami, Florida and is studying under the guidance of Manny Perez and Caren Levine (MET) and is part of Florida Grand Opera performing in the opera Nabucco (Verdi) and being considered for coprimario roles with the company.
