Bo Lee

Bo LeeIn 2017, flute player Bo Lee was named the second prizewinner of the James Pappoutsakis Memorial Flute Competition (Boston, MA) as well as the South Carolina Flute Society Young Artist Competition. Bo has performed in masterclasses for flutists such as Jeanne Baxtresser, Sir James Galway, Michael Hasel, Lorna McGhee, Emmanuel Pahud, Gary Schocker, Mimi Stillman, and Keith Underwood, among others. She has performed extensively as a recitalist and chamber musician in the southeast region of the country. While at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), Bo performed regularly with the UNCSA Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and UNCSA’s contemporary ensemble, nu.
She has served as principal flutist in the opera orchestra of the Fletcher Opera Institute and was the piccolo scholar in UNCSA’s 2014 production of The Nutcracker. Additionally, her students in North Carolina have been successful in auditions at the district level. In addition to performing with the New England Conservatory Philharmonia and Wind Ensemble, Bo also performs in the NEC Contemporary Ensemble, in which she received coaching on Sofia Gubaidulina’s Garten von Freuden und Traurigkeiten by the composer herself. Bo has attended Brevard Music Center Summer Institute and Festival where she studied with Marianne Gedigian and Dilshad Posnock. She has studied and performed chamber music at the Vianden International Music Festival and School in Vianden, Luxembourg and at the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music (Nelson, NH). In addition to winning several masterclass competitions, she was a second prizewinner in the 2013 Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition, first prizewinner in the 2011 Raleigh Area Flute Association Review and Contest, and was a finalist in the 2015 UNCSA Concerto Competition.
Bo has given performances in Madrid as a part of the Spain Tour International Study Program and attended Le Domaine Forget Music Academy in Canada on full scholarship through the generosity of the Semans Art Fund. While there, she studied with Susan Hoeppner and Marie-Andrée Benny. A native of Augusta, Georgia, Bo studied with Angela Massey and is a graduate of John S.
Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School. She holds the Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts where she studied under Tadeu Coelho. Bo is pursuing the Master of Music degree at the New England Conservatory of Music where she studies with Renée Krimsier. Mentored by John Heiss, she has also received additional instruction from Cynthia Meyers, Paula Robison, and Elizabeth Rowe. In her free time, Bo enjoys the art of cross-stitch and is an appreciator of comic books.
