Abigail Whitney Smith
Massachusetts native Abigail Whitney Smith, soprano, is quickly gaining recognition as a “dynamic” (Broome County Arts Mirror) singing actress in both opera and musical theatre. For the 2017-2018 season, Abigail is thrilled to make debuts with Seaglass Theater Company, MetroWest Opera, and OperaHub. In the 2016- 2017 season, Abigail joined the roster of Boston Lyric Opera for their production of Carmen, and returned to Tri-Cities Opera as a guest artist as the Mother in Hansel and Gretel and Soprano 2 in Hydrogen Jukebox. Abigail was named a national semifinalist in the Emerging Professional category of the 2016 Classical Singer Magazine competition.
Abigail received her MM in Opera Performance from Binghamton University, where she performed Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi and was featured in scenes performances as the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier, Alice Ford in Falstaff, Mary Warren in The Crucible, and Countess Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro. In collaboration with her graduate studies, Ms. Smith was also a Resident Artist with Tri-Cities Opera, where she made her professional debut as Berta in Il barbiere di Siviglia and was featured in several of their productions and outreach performances, including Michael Ching’s Speed Dating Tonight!
Abigail received her BM in Vocal Performance from Boston University and was featured in several mainstage productions with the Boston University Opera Institute and Opera Workshop, where her roles included Beatrice Mitchell in Three Decembers, Vitellia in La clemenza di Tito, and Second Woman in Dido and Aeneas.. Upon graduation, Ms Smith was awarded the Boston University Music Departmental Award for her work with the Opera Institute. Ms. Smith is currently based in Boston, MA.
