Maris Bosworth
Originally from Owensboro, Kentucky, pianist and coach Maris Bosworth is currently based in Salt Lake City, Utah. She works with students at the University of Utah, and in 2017, she joined the music staff at Utah Valley University as a collaborative pianist for the voice and opera programs. Maris is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she studied vocal coaching and accompanying with Dr. Julie Gunn.
She was a frequent recitalist during her time at UIUC, and performed in the Lyric Theatre @ Illinois’s opera scenes programs. Maris discovered her passion for collaborative piano during her undergraduate studies at the University of Kentucky, regularly performing on her friends’ recitals, accompanying multiple choirs, and playing in the pit for productions of The Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables. She worked as an active freelance musician in Kentucky, and in 2015, she was the pianist for MoonDance Amphitheater’s debut performance of Opera Under the Stars, a family-friendly concert of popular arias and ensembles.
Working with students of all levels, Maris has become intensely invested in arts education. During her master’s, she accompanied young Suzuki students in the Illinois String Academy, and has spent the last two summers coaching and accompanying high school singers at the Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts. In 2014, she toured Kentucky with the Schmidt Opera Outreach Program as accompanist and assistant musical director for The Adventures of Alice in Opera Land.
In addition to her master’s degree from the University of Illinois, Maris holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with a minor in Vocal Performance from the University of Kentucky. She has also studied song and opera overseas in Italy and the Czech Republic. She is looking forward to becoming a part of Druid City Opera Workshop in May, and to be joining Crested Butte Opera Studio later this summer as a Young Artist.
