This award-winning metalsmith published her book, “Setting Gemstones in Metal Clay” in 2007 and has invented a new metal clay tool. She got her jewelry arts degree (goldsmith) from the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco and with her husband Philip, owned New Beginnings, a Gallery of Jewelry and Fine Art in El Dorado Hills for eleven years. During that time she became addicted to using the metal and polymer clays. When working with the hard metals, Baum-Davis mainly constructs jewelry more than carve wax. The hard, crisp geometrical edges jump out of her designs.
With the clays, she is able to have the organic works flow and develop. These three media allow her to continue to create one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable art. Davis has taught and presented at many Metal Clay conferences and in addition to her book, Setting Gemstones in Metal Clay, has two tutorials in the Color on Metal Clay book with Kalmbach Publishing. Her artwork and her tutorials have been in many jewelry publications. Lorrene has won numerous jewelry art awards. She has instructed at the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts, in S.F. and at the California Institute of Jewelry Training in Carmichael, CA. Her classes have been held at the La Ruche Studio outside Washington D.C., in San Diego, Fresno, Sacramento as well as in her Sierra Foothills Studio in Placerville, CA. In her spare time, she sings, acts and directs in her local community theater group.
