Laura Parker

As with most artists Laura obsesses about her work. This “obsession” leads her down many paths, each with a similar purpose: to bend, grind, cut, pour, or otherwise manipulate metal to submit to her creative will. If she is lucky at the end of the day she has defied gravity and conveyed her message. There are easier materials to work in but there are none that touch the soul as deeply. Her work is usually of a personal nature. A fellow artist once asked “isn’t everything a self portrait?” She tends to agree. Although her work emulates her own trials and tribulations she has been surprised how many of her “musings” are universal. Often as artists we feel we are somehow more sensitive than the rest of the world when in reality she has come to believe that we all have soft underbellies. Some of us just choose to express those thoughts/feelings through art. She is a tenured professor in the Art Department at American River College.
