Kayla Marie KalmmerKayla was born and raised in small town rural Nebraska, where she saw several cows and quite a bit of corn. She attended college at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, and double majored in Theatre Performance and Dance. Some of her favorite roles include: Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Ariel in The Tempest, and Sabina in The Skin of Our Teeth. While in school she also performed in numerous student and faculty dance shows, as well as sang her heart out in a few musical showcases. She has choreographed for both theatre and dance shows, including the Faeries in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the Greek Chorus in Medea, and two consecutive Student Dance Projects at UNL. Kayla was an active member of Red Theater Lincoln for three years, including a one-year stint as Artistic Director.
“Red” is rebellious theater. She performed with them at Red Theater In the Flesh, Free Radicals, Doomsday, and Unclaimed (AD). With them she wrote a number of theatricalKayla Marie Kalmmer and movement pieces, and found a new outlet to explore theater. In the most recent months, Kayla was touring in the Cincinnati, Ohio area with the National Theatre for Children performing an educational show called Kilowatt Kitchen. When you meet her, you can tell she is passionate about her work. She loves the opportunity to work with others, strives to continually learn something new, and has that special Midwest charm about her.
