J3T (Jet) Quartet
J3T (Jet) is a group of fun loving guys that began the quartet while singing in the 505 Chorus out of Albuquerque, NM. We are proud to be the 2012 FWD Northwest Division Novice Champions and Fall 2012 Far Western District Finalists.
Jesse Herrera
(Baritone)
Jesse, has sang in many groups throughout his early life. Singing with the Albuquerque Boys’ Choir in his elementary days (where he met future quartet-mate Jerec) and then later in his high school mixed chorus (with future quartet-mate, Ty). After high school, he moved to the East coast where he thrived in the college a cappella community. He directed and sang with an all-male a cappella group “Simple Harmonic Motion” out of Worcester Polytechnic Institute. A group that featured many folk and popular music stylings and performed at venues including singing the national anthem for the Boston Red Sox. Jesse is also an avid musician who has performed in a folk/indie/rock band called “The Noms” which has performed in venues including the Viper Room in Los Angeles while opening up for bands like Secondhand Serenade. He also is a very talented Jazz musician/guitarist/songwriter and continues to pursue his talents as a solo musician specializing in his unique musical styles drawing from Brazilian Jazz, Flamenco, and folk music.
Jerec Ricci
(Lead)
Jerec has also had his share in the college a cappella scene. During his time at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, he sang in Bucknell’s all male a cappella group “The Bison Chips”, which perform a variety of musical genres including popular, American classics, and classical music. Although, this had a major influence on his musical skills and interests, this is not where Jerec’s love for singing began. He began singing with the Albuquerque Boys’ Choir, which provided him with a proper knowledge of singing in the classical genre. After graduating from college, Jerec moved back to his hometown Albuquerque and ran into old friend from Albuquerque Boys’ Choir, Jesse, who had told him about a new group he had found out about. He has become a valuable asset to the chorus and holds the position of Tenor Section Leader of the 505. Jerec is currently attending Medical School at the University of New Mexico where he hopes to eventually practice medicine and help people.
James Barker
(Bass)
James was one of the original members of the 505 Chorus present from the first day the group was founded. He was one of the youngest members in the group as a sophomore at Sandia High School. A high school show chorus product from the very noteable “Continentals”, perennial powerhouse in the New Mexico show chorus world. As a newcomer to barbershop, he quickly impressed the more experienced barbershoppers with his killer accuracy and his passion for barbershop from Day 1. He helped in the recruitment of a number of singers to the 505 Chorus as his passion for barbershop captured the ire of many of his friends. An interesting fact about James is that he once owned a car that sported the Barbershop Harmony Society logo, made personally with some elbow grease as well as a nifty tattoo containing the 505 logo on his calf, which quickly became a symbol of the growth of the chorus as a force to be contended with.
Ty Jones
(Tenor)
Ty, was also one of the original members of the 505 Chorus who showed up on the founding day of the chorus. Ty began singing in middle school, but was summoned to singing soprano due to his abilities to sing in falsetto effectively. He later went on to sing in high school mixed chorus as a tenor but was noted for his range spanning from low bass to high tenor. He performed in a variety of theatrical shows while attending UNM, including “High School Musical: On Stage” and “Scrooge the Musical” where he had his first encounter with a “barbershopper” and sang his first tag. While in college, he stumbled into barbershop as he was seeked out by one of the founders of the 505 that he knew previously through a friend.
From then on, the art grew to interest him to the point that he became an avid participant in the chorus activities. He served as Tenor Section Leader and Vice President of Membership of the 505 Chorus for a short period of time before moving to California for graduate school. While in graduate school, he sang with an all-male college a cappella group called “Noteworthy” (famous for their viral rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Pokerface”). Later, he joined “Voices in Harmony”, a chorus in the Bay Area led by the famous Dr. Greg Lyne. He also currently sings with another quartet “First Strike” and is a member of a Bay area youth barbershop a cappella chorus start-up project, the first of its kind in the area.
