Bryan E. Kennard
Bryan is a composer, flutist, and improviser and frequently performs as a leader and sideman with several jazz and chamber groups. Bryan is a founding member of the Austin Flute Project and is its Composer-in-Residence. He has appeared in concerts for the Austin Chamber Music Center, Cleveland Composers Guild, Texas Music Educators Association, National Flute Association, and at the Montreux and North Sea Jazz Festivals in addition to numerous solo and chamber programs.
Currently pursuing a DMA at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music in Jazz Composition, Bryan’s recent works have included compositions for jazz big band, jazz small groups, and classical chamber groups.
His music has been performed across the country in recitals and featured concerts at the National Flute Association Convention (2011, 2016, 2017), Texas Music Educators Association Convention (2017), and at the Montreux and North Sea Jazz Festivals (2017). Bryan also had the opportunity to present his work in a master class with composer Billy Childs at the 2017 International Society for Jazz Arrangers and Composers Symposium in Tampa, Florida. Bryan earned his Masters of Music in Jazz Composition from UT Austin, a Masters of Music in Flute Performance from Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio, and his Bachelor of Music from Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania.
During his time at UT, he was awarded the 2016 Eleanor A. Stribling Award for Excellence in Jazz Studies and won a Downbeat Student Music Award for Best Graduate Jazz Small Group as a member of the Alternative Improvised Music Ensemble (AIME).
