The Phoebes
The Phoebes are an eclectic music group from Humboldt County. The group’s acoustic sound is rooted in folk and popular music and features distinctive vocal harmonies. Their repertoire includes original material and songs from myriad songwriters and performers. The band members have diverse musical backgrounds, giving the group its unique sound. The group’s co-conspirators are (from left to right) Chris Cooper, bass guitar, Kristin Kirby, guitar, mandolin and vocals; and Katrina Haeger, vocals and guitar. Katrina graduated with a music credential from Humboldt State University. Besides having a musical theater background, she has also performed and recorded with numerous jazz, folk, and classical groups around California and Washington. She currently teaches K-8 music in the Fortuna Elementary School District. Kristin also has a musical theatre background. She is a self-taught guitarist and mandolin player, has studied classical piano, and is a member of the Arcata Interfaith Gospel Choir. She also teaches guitar. Chris played in the Long Beach-based blues band, The Confessors, with Canned Heat vocalist and guitarist Robert Lucas, and has worked with Caribbean steel pan virtuoso Enel Allert. He taught music at Bridgeville School for fifteen years. The Phoebes made their auspicious debut at a house concert in May 2008. Members have played at large music festivals and concerts throughout the western United States. The Phoebes play with great energy and feeling and will light up any event when they perform.
