Regina Walter
Regina Walter is an active singer and private voice and piano teacher in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with over 20 years’ experience. Additionally, she accompanies students in both recitals and the Texas UIL Vocal Contests. Ms. Walter received her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of North Texas and the Bachelor of Arts degree from Furman University. She also studied under Dr. Richard Lalli of Yale University. After graduate school, she continued her studies with Mr. Grant Williams, formerly of the New York City Opera, and Dr. Stephen Dubberly of the University of North Texas. She began her piano studies when she was 7 years old and continued through college. As a teacher, Ms. Walter has a wide variety of experience. She began teaching while a student at the University of North Texas, where she was a Voice Teaching Fellow, teaching undergraduate voice to music majors and preparing them for their juries and proficiency exams.
After graduation, she taught private lessons in several high schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and a private music school. She also taught at several area colleges including Texas Woman’s University, North Lake College (Dallas County Community College), and North Central Texas College. Ms. Walter is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, where she is also a former board member. Ms. Walter offers private in-home lessons in the Southlake, Grapevine, Colleyville, North Richland Hills, Keller, Bedford area.
She teaches students as young as 4 years old through senior adults of all skill levels, beginners through college level. Her students are exposed to a variety of different kinds of music including classical, musical theater, popular, movie themes, and contemporary Christian. She tailors each lesson to the individual student’s needs and interests. Ms. Walter’s students participate in 2 yearly recitals (Christmas and end-of-school-year). Over 90% of her voice students earn top ratings in the Texas UIL Solo Contests each year (several were awarded the prestigious Outstanding Performer Awards). She has had several students chosen for both the TAPPS and TMEA All-State Choirs. Her students are frequently chosen for roles in local theater companies and high schools. Soprano Regina Walter has the rare voice that can carry beautiful legato lines with the strength of a dramatic soprano and the flexibility of a coloratura soprano. Her tone contains both a warmth and a ring that are refreshing to hear.
She made her professional operatic debut as Monica in Menotti’s The Medium. Ms. Walter’s other credits include Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus, Lola in Moore’s Gallantry, Ms. Alt in Mozart’s Impresario, and Widow Rachel Norton in Beeson’s Dr. Heidegger’s Fountain of Youth. She has appeared with the Dallas Opera, the Regal Opera, the Fort Worth Opera, the Connecticut Grand Opera and Orchestra, The Metroplex Opera, the Central Texas Opera Festival, the Shubert Opera Ensemble, and the Italian National Opera.
Ms. Walter made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2004 as the soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Mass in C with the North Texas Festival Choir. Among her concert appearances are Bach’s Magnificat, Beethoven’s Mass in C, Beethoven’s Choral Symphony, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, Dubois’ Seven Last Words of Christ, Faure’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass and Creation, Mozart’s Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Poulenc’s Gloria, Rutter’s Magnificat, Saint-Saens’ Christmas Oratorio, Schubert’s Mass in G, Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem, and Vivaldi’s Gloria. As a guest artist, Ms. Walter has had the pleasure of performing in Germany, Scotland, Ireland, Czech Republic, and France.
Additionally, she regularly presents recitals of vocal music in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Ms. Walter’s honors include her selection in the prestigious Who’s Who in America, Semi-Finalist Shreveport Opera Singer of the Year, Semi-Finalist Connecticut Opera Guild Vocal Competition, Voice Teaching Fellowship (University of North Texas), and Voice Scholarship (Furman University).
