Mirabel Wigon
Mirabel Wigon is a Sacramento based fine artist and illustrator. She was awarded a BFA in Traditional Arts from California State University East Bay. Her work is characterized by methodically rendered sections, depicting human-made structures and figures. She quite intentionally leaves parts uncompleted and abstracted creating bleak atmospheres. Her paintings and drawings, illustrate structures/figures being overcome by a natural element. Here, figures are adrift in ethereal landscapes, decrepit buildings are lost in a mass of roots and leaves, and floating orbs or other fantastical scenes suspend reality. The clash of humanity and nature is manifested in these scenes. Her goal is to capture the feeling of futility, as the human archetype is swallowed by the natural world. Her work pushes atmospheres rather than obvious narratives and creates a mythos for the work to live in.
