Jared Hiscock

Since joining The Glenn Korff School of Music as a graduate student and teacher, Lincoln’s professional chamber choir Abendchor has featured member Jared Hiscock in performances of Michael Tippett’s “Five Spirituals” from A child of our time and Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. Jared also performed in their Nebraska premieres of Anne Wilson’s A Song of Hope and Carol Barnett’s The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass with Monroe Crossing. He has recently enjoyed singing professionally in Omaha’s vocal ensemble Résonance, Nebraska Organization of Vocal Artists (NOVA), and as a member of the OperaOmaha chorus. Highlights amongst Jared’s recent performances include Stravinsky’s Mass, Copland’s In the Beginning, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Britten’s War Requiem (with the American Boychoir). His recent opera credits include performances as Friedrich Bhaer in UNL’s production of Adamo’s Little Women, the title character in the OperaUpClose production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro with the James C. and Rhonda Seacrest Tour Nebraska Fund, Leporello in UNL’s production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Ivar in UNL’s world premier of Tyler White’s revised O Pioneers, and King Melchior in UNL’s educational outreach production of Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors. Recent oratorio credits include Bach’s Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Fauré’s Requiem, and Mozart’s Requiem.
During the Association of British Choral Directors 2013 conference, Jared toured London and Oxford as a soloist with the UNL Chamber Singers, the featured collegiate choral ensemble of the conference, and worked with John Rutter, Bob Chilcott, Therese Hibbard and Jo-Michael Scheibe. Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais at the Barstow Institute and Choral Pedagogy with James Jordan at Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ, as well as in masterclass with W. Stephen Smith, author of The Naked Voice. He has also worked in masterclass with Cori Ellison, dramaturg for the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, and Jeannette LoVetri, creator of Somatic Voicework. Hiscock studied closely with the renowned soprano Elizabeth Kirkpatrick Vrenios as a scholarship student with the Redwoods Opera Workshop. He has also studied in the German Language program at the Seminar Schloss Bogenhofen in Austria. His recent recitals have included performances of song-cycles such as Schubert’s Winterreise, Beethoven’s An die ferne Geliebte, Schumann’s Dichterliebe, Vaughan Williams’s Songs of Travel, Mahler’s Rückert-lieder, and Poulenc’s Quatre poèmes de Guillaume Apollinaire and chamber music works such as Barber’s Dover Beach, Poulenc’s Le Bestiaire, Vaughan
Williams’s Ten Blake Songs for voice and oboe, and the UNL premiere of Gerald Finzi’s By Footpath and Stile with the Skyros Quartet.
During the 2015 season, Jared performed Arvo Pärt’s Ein Wallfahrtslied for Lincoln Modern Music’s on the edge concert series and Schoenberg’s Ode to Napoleon Buonaparte for string quartet, piano & baritone Sprechstimme with UNL’s Contemporary Music Ensemble. Hiscock was a finalist in the UNL Concerto Competition and the Coeur de’Alene Young Artists Competition as well as a first place winner in the Nebraska NATS Auditions. During his time at WWU, he was awarded both the Ghidotti Foundation Scholarship and the Eugene and Betty Soper Scholarship and in 2010 received the Music Major of the Year prize. Jared Hiscock holds a Master’s of Music degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music, where he worked under the direction of Richard H. Larson Distinguished Professor of Music and Director of Opera, William Shomos, and a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from Walla Walla University with majors in Music and Theology. Jared is an Associate Member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. He is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Vocal Performance at the UNL Glenn Korff School of Music, where he also works as a Doctoral Graduate Teaching Assistant. In addition, he serves as a choral scholar at First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, NE.
Upcoming performances include appearances with the Haymarket Theater in Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill, A Musical Voyage, the premiere of April Love by Gary Ruschman in a duet recital with mezzo-soprano Dr. Anna Degraff at South Dakota State University, as a soloist in the Mankato Symphony Orchestra’s production of Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, and in the Nebraska premiere of The Wound-Dresser by John Adams at the Sheldon Museum of Art. Jared is married to Damie Elder-Hiscock. The couple are parents to three children, Ryann (2009-2011), Clifton (2012), & Walden (2014).
